Turing began in 2018 as a marketplace for remote software engineers and now supplies coding and reasoning data to AI labs. Contributors, mainly experienced developers and STEM specialists, solve problems, write and review code, and evaluate model outputs, typically on hourly contracts. It suits engineers who can commit to regular weekly hours rather than picking up tasks whenever they like.
Commitment. Hourly contractor work, usually on fixed-term contracts that may be extended. Each listing states the expected weekly hours and any time-zone overlap. As a contractor, do not expect employee benefits such as paid leave.

When you are paid. Not verified. Check the pay cycle, and which payout method works in your country, in your contract or during onboarding.
Pay is typically an hourly contractor rate, set per project and stated in the listing or the offer, so it differs by project and role. Whether rates also depend on where you live is not published. No platform-wide range is given here, because each listing or offer states its own rate. Check the stated rate before you accept, and compare it with what you could earn locally.

05 · How to get in
Browse open roles on turing.com/jobs, or Turing postings on job boards that lead back to turing.com, and apply to the role that best matches your strongest skill.
Sign up for a Turing account and add your CV, skills, experience, location and availability. List only skills you can be tested on.
Expect timed technical assessments, such as a coding challenge or skill tests in your main language. STEM roles test your subject instead. Formats vary by role and have changed over time.
Some roles add a short technical or screening interview before an offer.
An offer is typically an hourly contractor agreement that states the rate, the weekly hours and the length of the contract. You then complete identity, tax and payment setup.
Learn the project's guidelines and tools, then begin paid tasks. Expect your work to be checked for quality.
06 · Tips
Apply in your strongest language. Python is commonly requested for AI-training coding work, so clean, idiomatic Python can count for more than a long list of languages.
Practice timed algorithm problems and state complexity and edge cases as you go. The work itself rewards clearly explained reasoning, not just an answer that passes.
List only skills you can be tested on. Retake limits may apply if you fail a test, and an inflated profile can match you to roles that do not fit.
Treat your written English as part of the test. Clear, concise explanations carry real weight.
Take timed tests somewhere quiet with stable power and internet, and have a backup connection or a power bank ready.
Once you are on a project, read the guidelines end to end, log your hours accurately, raise unclear points early in the official channels and protect your quality scores. Reliable contributors are better placed when contracts are extended.
Make sure the role is listed on turing.com and handled through your Turing account. Treat any request for a fee, or a 'recruiter' who works only over WhatsApp or Telegram, as a red flag.

08 · In Africa
Not verified for 2026. Turing has historically recruited developers in Africa, but we could not confirm current eligibility for Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa or Egypt. Check the location line on each listing before you apply. If a listing asks for overlap with US Pacific working hours, that overlap falls between late afternoon and late night across Africa, depending on the country (a 9am-1pm Pacific overlap is roughly 5-9pm in Lagos and 7-11pm in Nairobi).
Where it hires. Turing recruits remote contractors internationally, but eligibility is set listing by listing, and some AI-training projects are limited to certain countries or regions. Country eligibility for 2026 could not be verified.
09 · Questions
For most roles, yes. Turing's AI-training work centers on coding and technical reasoning, so listings generally ask for professional programming experience or advanced STEM expertise. It is not mainly a platform for generalist writing work.
Usually not. Turing roles are typically hourly contracts with an expected number of hours each week, and some listings have required overlap with US Pacific working hours. In return, hours can be steadier while a contract lasts.
Possibly. Eligibility is set listing by listing. Turing has historically recruited developers in Africa, but we could not verify current eligibility for these countries, so check the location details on each listing before applying.
No. Passing makes you eligible, but paid work depends on a project needing your skills at that time, and you may wait before you are matched. Contracts can also end when a client's needs change.
Genuine roles are listed on turing.com and handled through your Turing account. Be wary of anyone who asks for an upfront fee or runs the whole process over WhatsApp or Telegram. Legitimate AI-training platforms pay their contributors; they do not charge them.
